Japan Probe Co, Ltd develops the broad band high sensitive ultrasonic flexible array probe fitting for any shaped surface specimen by bending so called special flexible bending probe. We start to sale it from May first 2014.
・The subject of conventional ultrasonic array probe
The conventional ultrasonic array probe (here after called array probe) has the following subject.
1) Array probe is difficult for transmitting and receiving to the uneven curved surface of inspection because of no bending the probe itself. The detective sensitivity of defect is inferior.
2) For uneven curved inspection surface. The probe is necessary for every curved surface,
The cost is expensive
3) The array probe being available for bending is a practical use, but the ultrasonic frequency band width is narrow, the time resolution is not so good, the sensitivity is also inferior.
Therefore the detection of subsurface defects, and the inspection of high attenuated material are not suitable
・Possibility of various shaped material inspection by ultrasonic array probe
This time Japan Probe Co, Ltd has developed the broad band high sensitive ultrasonic flexible array probe (here after called the special array probe), the special array probe has the flexible composite element, matching layer, the damping material, these three layers construction. These technologies made possible achievement of this special probe as following.
1) Ultrasonic inspection for any shaped inspection materials: plane surface, curved surface, and uneven surface is available (possible).
2) Only this special array probe is possible for inspection of various shaped inspection material, the cost performance is realizing.
3) The broad band high sensitive (improvement of more than 6dB) ultrasonic inspection is realized by this special array probe. As the result, the inspection is possible for subsurface defects, the adjacent defects, and high attenuated material such as CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic), GFRP (grass fiber reinforced plastic), aluminum die cast and welded part.
・Expanding application of ultrasonic array probe
The application of this special array probe is the inspection of aircraft wing, helicopter’s rotor. Air craft maker(Air Bus, Rolls-Royce and so on ) is considering for a practical use. In medical field, the inspection for the blood clot and cancer of the breast of carotid is considered. And also the newly developed special array probe is widely expected for various kinds application such as aerospace, automobile, home electric appliance plant, road bridge, medical treatment .
